By Odin, Thor will be the Goddess of Thunder!
Nope, I couldn't make that up. As seen below, the new Thor is a buxom blonde sporting a red cape and apparently holding the magical hammer Mjolnir.
Aaron gave a few more details — and I mean only a few — in an interview with Marvel.com about the character who will premiere in THOR No. 1 in October.
"This really is a Thor story unlike any we've ever seen before and it's not meant to be fleeting. It's not a one-time thing or an alternative reality. This is the new version of Thor in the Marvel Universe," Aaron said.
Artist Dauterman (I guess this dude is like Cher and Madonna; he doesn't use a first name!) and self-described "fan of the (Thor) character" told Marvel.com when he found out THOR editor "Wil Moss said that the new Thor would a Goddess of Thunder, I was super excited."
Well, Dauterman might be on the only one. The response of fans, from what I've read on Facebook, has been everything from "huh?" to "Bleck!" — not exactly a ringing endorsement.
And I can't say I disagree.
First of all, I want to know what will happen to Thor Odinson?
"The previous Thor doesn't know who she is. … Not even All-Father Odin seems to know," Aaron said.
Okaaaaaay. … So, that sounds like the Thor we know and love will be around when the Goddess of Thunder makes her first appearance.
Secondly, I wonder what will happen to the relatively new Marvel Now series THOR: GOD OF THUNDER? It's quite likely Marvel Comics will have two series starring Thor (or is that Thors?): THOR might feature the female version and GOD OF THUNDER the original.
Here are some not-so-bold predictions: The Goddess of Thunder won't stick around long. And while she is here (Marvel hasn't revealed her alter-ego), fans won't exactly make her feel that welcomed.
